Water Works returns to Mainstreet Gallery

Mainstreet Gallery, in Lake Zurich, will be hosting their second showing of “Water Works,” their most popular landscape exhibition.

The show features diverse paintings that explore water in its various states and settings. This year’s exhibition features paintings from serene ponds and lakes to bird baths and boat docks. Each of the paintings was juried into the exhibition and evaluated for its design, mood and technique.

“Artists love to capture water and art appreciators are drawn to paintings featuring water,” gallery owner Frankie Johnson said.

Mainstreet Gallery hosted “Water Works” in 2023. It was such a success that the gallery knew they had to host it again. With over 50 local and regional artists participating and over 80 paintings displayed, this year’s exhibition has proved to be as popular as the last.

It will hang the entire month of October. The gallery will host a gallery reception and awards night from 5:30-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.

“It will be a busy and celebratory night as we recognize the artists,” Johnson said.

James Swanson, well-known for his own water paintings often featuring faithful golden retrievers, will be judging the exhibition and choosing its prize winners.

“It is great for the community to see what incredible art is all around them. We hope they’ll come in to check out the show and appreciate the creativity and work that went into all these paintings,” Johnson said.

“Water Works” is on display at Mainstreet Gallery, 16 E. Main St., Lake Zurich. The gallery will be open from 1-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
