Authorities: Glen Ellyn man said racist things to delivery driver

A Glen Ellyn man has been charged with disorderly conduct, accused of saying racially derogatory things to a delivery driver.

Martin S. Gertchev, 35, of the 400 block of Raintree Court, was arrested around 8 p.m. Sept. 19, police said.

Glen Ellyn police said began receiving calls around 3 p.m. that day about Gertchev acting suspiciously and behaving unusually. The complainants declined to pursue criminal charges.

Police said they offered Gertchev help, and he refused.

Around 8 p.m., they received the report about Gertchev’s interaction with a delivery driver. According to DuPage County court records, he is accused of saying racial slurs and derogatory comments, and wearing a T-shirt with handwritten racial slurs and derogatory comments, disturbing a woman.

He was released with a notice to appear in court. Misdemeanor disorderly conduct is not a detainable offense.

DuPage court records indicate Gertchev was arrested in June on a warrant in a Lake County case. He was accused of violating the terms of a conditional release he was given after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault.
