Geneva launches inaugural bird photo contest to celebrate Bird City Illinois designation

Love photographing birds in Geneva? The city’s Natural Resources Committee would love to see your best images.

After Geneva was designated a Bird City Illinois community earlier this year, the committee is highlighting local wildlife and natural areas by hosting its inaugural bird photo contest.

Participants may submit a new photo of one or more birds taken within the city’s municipal boundaries, which include the Fabyan Forest Preserve along the Fox River, Peck Farm Park and Prairie Green Preserve.

Photographers do not have to live in Geneva. The deadline to submit a photo through the city’s website, geneva.il.us, is Thursday, Dec. 31.

The top photos will be featured on the Natural Resources Committee’s social media channels and displayed at the 2027 Wine, Cheese & Trees fundraiser.

The Audubon Council of Illinois presented Geneva with its Bird City Illinois certification in April. The designation is awarded to communities that demonstrate a significant, ongoing commitment to bird conservation and education.

The Natural Resources Committee, comprised of resident volunteers, spent two years working toward certification and hosted Geneva’s first World Migratory Bird Day event this spring.
