College of DuPage introduces free AI Literacy program
College of DuPage is introducing a new Artificial Intelligence Literacy program to help students, faculty, staff, and community members understand and use artificial intelligence thoughtfully, responsibly and effectively.
Developed in partnership with Intel, the program explains how AI works, where it adds value, and what limitations and ethical concerns users should consider.
Participants will learn to assess AI-generated information, identify inaccuracies and bias, protect sensitive data and determine when human judgment is required.
“Artificial intelligence increasingly shapes how we learn, work and make decisions,” said COD President Muddassir Siddiqi. “We want people to know how to use these tools while also questioning their outputs, verifying information and applying independent judgment. Meaningful AI literacy combines practical skills with ethical awareness and critical thinking.”
The program offers free, self-paced online courses on responsible AI, generative AI, accessibility, and digital trust. Participants may complete courses at their own pace and earn a digital badge for each completed course.

As part of the initiative, COD will host a free AI Literacy Summit from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, at the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
The summit will bring together students, educators, professionals, parents and community members for practical discussions on AI in education, the workplace and daily life. Sessions will focus on responsible use, critical evaluation and appropriate human oversight. No prior AI experience is required.
Speakers include COD President Muddassir Siddiqi, Lenovo Chief Technology and Innovation Strategist Hernán Londoño, and Intel Director of Strategic Initiatives David Minnar.
Participants will explore useful tools and workflows, build confidence using AI, and connect with fellow learners from across the community.
Sessions will include “ChatGPT for Work,” focused on putting AI to work in professional life; “ChatGPT for Parents,” exploring how AI is shaping learning and everyday life; and “Building with ChatGPT,” designed to help participants go beyond the basics and expand their AI skills.
