Football roundup: Lisle, Naperville C., IC Catholic, Wheaton Academy notch victories

Lisle 34, Herscher 28, OT: A year ago, Lisle’s football team played a junior varsity schedule due to low upperclassmen numbers.

Now, the Lions (3-2, 1-2) are headed back to postseason play for the first time since 2022 following Friday night’s walk-off overtime victory over Herscher at Benedictine University.

Junior tailback Collins Miles carried the ball 14 times for 169 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Nathan Garcia had 50 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Junior JT Tumbarelli had 18 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown, while also recovering a fumble.

Jacob Aalrust also scored a rushing touchdown as the Lions gained 361 yards on the ground.

Senior linebacker Noah Nigro recorded a game-high 11 tackles. Elenas Grigonis had eight tackles.

Naperville Central 41, DeKalb 7: Senior quarterback Simon Hayes tossed three touchdown passes during the Redhawks’ DuPage Valley road triumph Friday night.

Trailing 10-0, Naperville Central had a touchdown run nullified by a penalty before Hayes hit Kyle Clark for a 17-yard touchdown pass on the next play. Hayes’ scoring pass to Mark Williams a few moments later enabled the Redhawks to grab the lead at 14-10.

In the second half, Hayes connected with running back Drew Schneider for his third touchdown pass. Ryan Jacobson and Landon Nelson added touchdown runs for the Redhawks (2-3, 1-1).

IC Catholic Prep 40, Leo 0: The Knights improved to 5-0 with the shutout victory in Elmhurst.

Quarterback Nate Lang tossed three touchdown passes, including a pair to junior standout Grant Bowen, his sixth and seventh touchdown receptions of the season, as the Knights built a 19-0 halftime advantage.

Sophomore tailback Jakobe Baldwin opened the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Lang also connected on a two-yard scoring pass to Anthony Carroccio before junior backup quarterback Jake Yost tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Quai McGee.

Defensively, junior safety Will Schmidt recorded a pair of interceptions, including a 60-yard pick-six, while junior Luke Rhomberg added an interception.

Wheaton Academy 42, St. Edward 7: Quarterback Colton Miller threw three touchdown passes — two to Eli Cherry — to lift the Warriors past St. Edward in West Chicago.

Miller also connected with Kaden Larsen for a touchdown, as the Warriors improved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in Chicagoland Christian action. Ryan Siders, Ethan Brooks, and Hudsen Hall each added rushing touchdowns for Wheaton Academy.

Defensively, junior linebacker Charlie Sias led the way, supported by defensive ends Brooks and Hall.

Junior quarterback Jake Linkowski accounted for the Green Wave (2-3, 1-2) points with a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Bishop McNamara 42, Aurora Christian 22: Jalen Callaway carried the ball 13 times for 123 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown run, while Luke Baumann added an 80-yard touchdown run during the Eagles’ Chicagoland Christian loss in Kankakee.

Callaway also caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Juju Vasquez as the Eagles (4-1, 2-1) saw their four-game winning streak snapped.

Jacobs 49, McHenry 6: Owen Crouch finished with five receptions for 135 yards and three touchdowns during the Golden Eagles’ Fox Valley Conference victory in Algonquin.

Quarterback Austin Stennett completed 10 of 14 passes for 197 yards, and added a 19-yard touchdown run as Jacobs (5-0, 5-0) remained unbeaten.

Chris Williams led the defense with an interception for the Golden Eagles, who now prepare for next Friday’s FVC showdown at Huntley (5-0, 5-0).

Hampshire 26, Dundee-Crown 12: Tyler Lacke scored a pair of touchdowns and connected on an 81-yard halfback option pass to Landon Hall (four receptions, 136 yards) for another score during the Whip-Purs’ Fox Valley victory.

Quarterback Griffin Chamberlain tossed a pair of touchdown passes as Hampshire (3-2, 3-2) recorded its third straight victory.

Tailback Tristan Gatenby scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Chargers (2-3, 2-3).

Crystal Lake South 37, Crystal Lake Central 13: Junior tailback Hector Del Bosque ignited a 27-point fourth quarter with a 67-yard touchdown run during the Gators’ Fox Valley victory over rival Crystal Lake Central.

Del Bosque carried the ball 26 times for 198 yards, while senior quarterback Michael Silvius completed 14 of 17 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns, and scored on a four-yard keeper.

Scott Yassick’s 33-yard field goal gave the Gators (2-3, 2-3) a 10-7 halftime lead.

Santi Hernandez’s 23-yard scoop-and-score fumble recovery capped the scoring.

Burlington Central 14, Prairie Ridge 0: Junior quarterback Reece Beemer tossed a touchdown pass to Jordan Coombs as the Rockets (3-2, 3-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with the Fox Valley Conference shutout triumph over the Wolves (0-5, 0-5).

Streamwood 29, Ridgewood 28: Quarterback Aden Sanchez’s 27-yard pass to JD Glover set up a short-yardage touchdown run by Alexander Castiglione as Streamwood (2-3) cut the third-quarter deficit to 28-27. After a Ridgewood penalty, Sanchez converted the go-ahead two-point conversion during the Sabres’ Upstate Eight crossover win.

After quarterback Angelo Vitale’s long completion to the Sabres’ 38 in the final seconds, the Rebels didn’t get off another snap as time expired.

Justin Brown had touchdown runs covering 66 and 20 yards for the Sabres.

Oak Park-River Forest 24, York 21: The Dukes (3-2, 1-1) dropped the West Suburban Silver road decision despite a two-touchdown effort from receiver Chris Winton (nine catches, 82 yards).

Quarterback Zack Assaad (18 of 25, 167 yards) tossed a four-yard touchdown pass to Winton in the final minute before the Huskies recovered the ensuing onside kick.

Chris Georgas finished with 80 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries for York.

Downers Grove North 51, Proviso West 0: Grant Georgas scored the game’s first touchdown on a 54-yard run, and Zachary Surowiec added a three-yard touchdown run to lift the Trojans (5-0, 3-0) to the West Suburban Silver victory in Hillside.

Joe Goodwin’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Rayjon Johnson added to the Trojans’ first-quarter barrage.

Hinsdale Central 44, Downers Grove South 0: George Zilliox returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to lead the Red Devils (3-2) to the West Suburban crossover victory.

Jack Burke’s sack and forced fumble stopped the Mustangs’ first drive in the red zone. Mikey Menza and Beau Knapp added touchdown runs for Hinsdale Central, which led 35-0 at halftime.

West Chicago 56, Elmwood Park 42: Bobby Elizondo returned a kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, and added a pair of rushing scores for the Wildcats (2-3, 1-2) in the Upstate Eight East.

Iann Lemus added a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Derek Murphy had a 35-yard touchdown run. Tadeo Lemus and Geoffrey Fleming each recorded interceptions. Murphy collected a team-high 11 tackles.

Addison Trail 47, Morton 19: The Blazers improved to 3-2, 1-2 in the West Suburban Gold. Ayden Smith scored on touchdown runs covering 57 and 25 yards while Jaden Romeus returned a kickoff 78 yards for a score.

Hinsdale South 35, Willowbrook 18: Marko Wallace got the Hornets (3-2, 3-0) on the board with a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Benjamin Miller connected with Donte Jett on a 33-yard scoring pass during their West Suburban Gold victory.

Kaneland 41, Sycamore 13: The Knights (4-1, 1-1) rebounded from last week’s loss to Morris with a convincing home victory.

Quarterback Brody Guthrie finished 13 of 15 for 169 yards with three touchdown passes — two of them to Colton Van Dyke — and another to Cooper Stombres. Jackson Little scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Griffin Seaton added a pick-six for Kaneland.

Fenwick 28, St. Francis 21: The Friars (4-1) built a 21-0 lead before holding off a St. Francis second-half rally. Quarterback Jadon Wilson completed 23 of 41 passes for 225 yards, highlighted by a 23-yard touchdown pass to Alijah Valeri. Wilson added a one-yard keeper for a score. Tivias Caldwell paced the Spartans (1-4) with 78 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Aurora Central Catholic 48, Walther Christian 0: The Chargers (1-4) jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead on the way to their first victory.
