Gurnee native Jaxson Davis commits to Ohio State
Two-time Illinois Mr. Basketball winner Jaxson Davis has committed to Ohio State, he announced on Instagram.
He is ranked No. 39 on the list of 2027 men's basketball recruits by 247Sports and No. 46 by On3 Sports. Davis spent his first three years of high school at Warren and will spend his senior season at Monarch Academy in Kansas City.
Davis recently took a visit to Creighton. During the past year, he received recruiting interest from Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Marquette, Michigan and Michigan State, among others. He called Duke his dream school.
Davis told 247Sports the main appeal of Ohio State is coach Jake Diebler saw him as a point guard who can run a team from Day 1.
“Coach Diebler believes I'm a true point guard,” Davis said. “(He) really believes in my playmaking ability to be able to play right away.
“When I got on campus first night, everyone in the program seemed so connected. Every coach on the staff truly values family.”
Ohio State went 21-13 last season, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years and losing to TCU in the first round.
Warren had a very successful three-year run with Davis. They reached the Class 4A championship game in 2025, where he produced 17 points and 8 assists in a 55-54 loss to Benet Academy.
The Blue Devils won a sectional title during Davis' freshman season in 2024, before losing 55-53 to Palatine in the supersectional. Last spring, an injury limited Davis' playing time in Warren's loss to Rockford Auburn in the sectional semifinals.
Davis averaged 23.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.5 steals during his junior year at Warren. He continued to play for the Mean Streets club team in the EYBL this summer.
By staying at Warren for his senior year, Davis would have likely passed Stevenson's Jalen Brunson as the all-time leading scorer in Lake County, and he talked about wanting to win a state title in high school. Ultimately, he decided to take the same route as most high school basketball stars and move on to a prep school, where basketball instruction can fill the day and he'll face better competition.
