Marriott Theatre’s 2027 season includes premiere of children’s tuner ‘Hansel & Gretel: Off The Grid’
Marriott Theatre premieres the new children’s musical “Hansel & Gretel: Off The Grid” by Johanna McKenzie Miller, Michael Mahler and Steven Strafford as part of its 2027 season.
Miller, artistic director for the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, will direct.
The new season commences Jan. 27, 2027, with a revival of “Pippin,” composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz’s coming-of-age tale about a discontented prince searching for his place in the world. Amber Mak directs and choreographs.
That’s followed by “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” (April 14-May 30, 2027), featuring Joseph Jefferson Award-winner Alex Goodrich, currently co-starring in Marriott’s excellent “Come From Away.” Katie Spelman directs and choreographs the tuner about an impoverished young man who discovers he’s ninth in line for an earldom and proceeds to knock off the eight people ahead of him.
Next up is the jukebox musical “Almost Heaven: Songs of John Denver” (June 16-Aug. 1, 2027), which chronicles the life of the late singer/songwriter, who delivered such 1960s and 1970s chart-toppers as “Take Me Home Country Roads,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders” and “Rocky Mountain High.” James Vasquez directs.
Jessica Fisch (“Come From Away,” “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”) helms a revival of the beloved “Les Miserables” (Aug. 25-Oct. 17, 2027). Adapted by composer Claude-Michel Schönberg and writer/lyricist Alain Boubli from Victor Hugo’s 19th-century novel, “Les Mis” tells the story of Jean Valjean. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, he breaks his parole and is pursued by Inspector Javert, who’s determined to exact justice.
The season concludes with a revival of “The Wiz” (Nov. 10, 2027-Jan. 2, 2028), directed and choreographed by Deidre Goodwin. Charlie Smalls and William F. Brown add rock, gospel and soul to their musical version of L. Frank Baum’s famed children’s tale.
Additionally, the Lincolnshire theater will stage three productions as part of its Theatre for Young Audiences series. They include: “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” (Feb. 19-March 27, 2027); “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile: The Musical” (July 9-Aug. 8, 2027) and “Hansel & Gretel: Off The Grid” (Nov. 27, 2027-Jan. 9, 2028).
Marriott Theatre is located at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Season subscriptions and single tickets (starting at $78 for main stage productions and $19.75 for children’s productions) are available at (847) 634-0200 or MarriottTheatre.com.
