Kane County to host flood preparedness workshop Sept. 24

Kane County, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will host a workshop Sept. 24 to help residents better understand flooding, ice jams and ways to prepare for these risks.

The flood resilience workshop will be 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Kane County Government Center auditorium, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Building A, Geneva. It will provide residents with information about river, stormwater and rainfall-related flood risks, as well as resources and tools available to help communities prepare for and respond to flooding.

Participants will have an opportunity to:

• Learn about flood risks, including those associated with rivers, stormwater and rainfall.

• Connect with local experts and learn about available tools and resources.

• Help shape what’s next by providing input that can inform future flood resilience planning in Kane County.

No previous flood-related expertise is required. The workshop is intended for anyone who has experienced flooding, is concerned about potential flood risks or simply wants to learn more about flooding and ice jams in Kane County.

The workshop is part of Kane County’s ongoing efforts to provide residents with information and resources to better understand and prepare for flooding and other natural hazards.
