Marklund names new volunteer services coordinator for Elgin location

Mary Motta has recently been named the new volunteer services coordinator at the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin.

A resident of the Huntley area, Motta brings extensive experience in volunteer management, community engagement, social services, and disability support to her new role.

She will help recruit, train, and coordinate individuals and groups interested in volunteering at the long-term care facility, which provides residential, educational, and day services to children and adults with profound developmental disabilities.

Prior to joining Marklund, Motta served in civilian support roles with the U.S. Army, and held positions focused on social services, volunteer coordination, and community outreach programs supporting senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

“I’m grateful to be part of Marklund and look forward to building meaningful relationships while helping create a strong volunteer community where people feel welcomed, supported, valued, and truly connected,” Motta said.

Marklund volunteers receive specialized training and play an important role in enhancing the lives of residents by assisting with recreational activities, participating in community outings, and providing additional support to staff.

Volunteer opportunities also extend beyond direct resident engagement and include office support, special events, fundraising activities, and other service opportunities.

Her ability to build relationships and support both staff and residents will be instrumental as we continue to grow and strengthen our volunteer program.”
