South Barrington officials to talk Allstate plan Wednesday night

South Barrington officials on Thursday will hold a public hearing about the proposed redevelopment of Allstate’s former headquarters.

The session is set for 7 p.m. at village hall, 30 Barrington Road.

Village officials are considering creating a special taxing district that would help fund redevelopment of the property, which is near the southeast corner of Higgins and Bartlett roads, as well as improvements at the neighboring South Barrington Office Center.

While the office park is in South Barrington, the Allstate property is in unincorporated Cook County. A company called Opus now intends to purchase the site and construct three light-industrial buildings there. Opus wants South Barrington to annex the land, which once was within the village limits.
