Is eight-months enough time?
I congratulate the Lake County Board on imposing an eight-month moratorium on data center application approvals. While it is a good step, there is a lot or work to do.
The environment studies conducted nationwide will take time. Coordination with other states and Illinois will be huge. There is remarkable pressure from/on both sides in facing this new threat to communities. I don't think anyone initially considered how many data centers would be built. But now we see they going up only 20 miles from each other throughout areas of the states.
The Texas governor suspended over 1,800 applications. Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Energy forecasts it could be a couple of decades before utilities can supply the energy requirements these corporate locusts can consume.
Perhaps, the answer to this would be that governments require the AI moguls pay for the infrastructure upgrades themselves. They obviously can spend hundreds of millions of dollars on White House ballrooms, presidential events and other projects the administration wants, as well as multimillion-dollar homes for themselves.
While this can be a boom for the construction industries, the evidence has shown very few operative jobs can be created. Maybe after 20 years, this technology will be outdated and replaceable. There is so much to be examined, will eight months be a substantial time?
