Mark Stephens resigns as Triton College board chair

Triton College announced Saturday that Mark R. Stephens has resigned as chairman of the college’s board of trustees.

Stephens remains as a trustee on the board of the community college in River Grove, according to the statement by Triton.

Stephens is the older brother of Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens and son of the late former Rosemont Mayor Donald E. Stephens.

“As Triton College’s Board of Trustees, we acknowledge Mr. Stephens’ more than 30 years of service as Board Chair and recognize the dedication demonstrated throughout that tenure,” the college stated Saturday on its website.

According to an Aug. 24 Chicago Tribune article, Stephens was charged on July 31 with felony possession of cocaine stemming from a traffic stop by Harvard police.

The report noted that police initially smelled cannabis during the traffic stop, and that Stephens handed them an open container of cannabis.

Triton College did not immediately return a phone message for comment on Saturday.
