Traffic is becoming scary. Nobody seems to care about following traffic law or being considerate of other drivers. Stop signs don’t apply to them, yellow lights mean just keep going, No Turn-on-Red and Green Arrow mean the same thing – just go, and weaving from lane to lane just keeps your suspension in tune. Blinking lights used to be a hint to move out of the fast lane, now riding on your bumper is normal. Trucks, especially dump trucks, own the road – all lanes.

So where are the police? Speed limits are not enforced (I have cheated and paid the price). I’ve called 911 to report routine parking in front of a fire hydrant by a repeat offender and was told by the cop to shut-up he will move it – next day same guy. Being a cop is a tough job, and they are probably told to let the small stuff slide. But if you don’t enforce the law, how will it be respected?

I saw one positive action last week while following a school bus discharging a student. A driver from the other direction was in a hurry and just went through the bus’s stop sign. Yeah, I was frustrated too. Schaumburg PD to the rescue, I just hope it was a fine rather than just a warning.
