Batavia park board to discuss plans for Mooseheart site Thursday
The Batavia park board will discuss concept plans for property it is getting from Mooseheart at a special meeting Thursday night.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Callahan Community Center, 150 Houston St.
The park district and the city of Batavia have been discussing a proposal to build a recreation center and a police station on 20 acres Mooseheart is giving the district, near Main Street and Millview Drive.
The district is due to receive the land in 2031, but is asking Mooseheart to turn it over sooner.
The Mooseheart park land donation was arranged in an annexation agreement the city council approved in 2012. Moose International proposed transforming 470 acres of farmland into a development with stores, offices, a hotel, a movie theater and housing.
So far, nothing has been built.
The park district has discussed building a recreation center, with an indoor swimming pool, on part of the land, along with tennis courts and athletics fields.
