Smith seeking another term as Buffalo Grove village president; Weidenfeld bows out

Buffalo Grove Village President Eric Smith says he is ready to serve four more years, announcing his intention to run for reelection in 2027.

However, village Trustee David Weidenfeld says he will not be running for another term.

Smith, a chiropractor, ran unopposed in 2023, succeeding the late Beverly Sussman. Before that, he served as trustee, dating back to his first stint in 2010, when he was appointed to serve the remaining term of recalled Trustee Lisa Stone.

In 2017, he was appointed again to serve the remaining term of Trustee Steven Trilling and was elected to a trustee seat in 2019.

“I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together, and I’m excited to keep working to make Buffalo Grove an even better place to live, work, and raise a family,” he announced on social media.

Weidenfeld, who began his first term in 2015, said 12 years was enough.

“My third term as Trustee in the Village of Buffalo Grove will end next May, and I think that is enough for anyone,” the outspoken trustee said in a social media post.

He thanked his supporters and said he hopes he “got things right more often than I didn’t.”

He also encouraged others to run.

Three village board seats are up for reelection in 2027, including Weidenfeld’s seat and those occupied by Frank Cesario and Kevin Richards.

In addition, longtime Village Clerk Janet Sirabian is also up for reelection.
