Three dogs, one cat killed in Des Plaines fire
Three dogs and one cat died in a fire early Sunday morning in Des Plaines, officials said.
Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on the 100 block of East Walnut Avenue at 3:32 a.m., according to the Des Plaines Fire Department. A resident who was home at the time escaped and called 911, officials said.
Fire crews arrived to find flames pouring from the windows and roof in the rear of the one-story, single-family home.
The blaze was brought under control at 3:48 a.m., with crews attacking the fire from the outside with hose lines before entering the home.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated the resident, who declined further treatment.
Des Plaines police and fire department investigators are working to determine the cause and origin. Preliminary loss is estimated at $75,000.
