Former Mundelein trustee charged with DUI days after resigning

A Mundelein trustee who resigned last week was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol days later, authorities said Tuesday.

It was the second such arrest in less than a year for Jennifer M. Grieco, 48, of the 600 block of East Maple Avenue.

Grieco was arrested about 5 p.m. Friday in an unincorporated area of Lake County near Lake Bluff after someone called 911 about a possibly impaired driver, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office. The caller reportedly saw the driver drinking from a bottle of alcohol in a gas station parking lot, Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.

A deputy spotted Grieco’s white Alfa Romeo sedan turning onto northbound Reigate Lane from Buckley Road and stopped it, Covelli said. Grieco started to drive off while speaking with the deputy, Covelli said, so the deputy stopped her a second time and got her out of the car.

Grieco’s breath smelled of alcohol and she failed field sobriety tests, Covelli said.

She was taken to Lake County jail, processed on the misdemeanor charge and released, Covelli said. She is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 23.

Grieco didn’t respond to requests for comment.

The former elected official also was arrested in September 2025 and charged with driving under the influence after a two-vehicle crash in Libertyville. She pleaded guilty in December and was sentenced to 12 months of probation, among other penalties, according to a spokesperson for the Lake County state’s attorney’s office.

Grieco resigned as trustee Tuesday, Aug. 18, in an email to Mayor Robin Meier and the other trustees. In that email, Grieco wrote that she was stepping down because she’s moving out of town.

Reached via email Tuesday morning, Meier said she was unaware of Grieco’s Friday arrest. She had no additional comment.

Meier informed the public of Grieco’s resignation Saturday night in a Facebook post and briefly discussed it during Monday’s village board meeting. The arrest wasn’t mentioned.

It’s up to Meier and the board to select Grieco’s successor.

Grieco was elected in April 2025 to a four-year term. Due to the timing of her resignation, her seat now will be up for election in April 2027.
