Consider impact of election on Supreme Court

In addition to Clarence Beardsley’s many valid reasons a Democrat-led Congress would restore sense and sanity to Washington, and possibly save our democracy, (If Democrats win House, Senate, Aug. 2) I believe there would be one even more imperative result of having control of both houses.

I firmly believe that both Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito, our oldest, most right-wing, conservative Supreme Court Justices, joined at the hip to Donald Trump, will retire from the Court late in Trump's second term, in order for Trump to replace them with two like-minded conservative justices. If the Democrats were to take both houses in the midterms, they would have several options to make sure Trump would never get that chance: They could pull a Mitch McConnell and make up excuses as to why neither nomination could even be presented to the Judiciary Committee; if they made it to the Judiciary Committee, the nominees would never have the votes to send the nominations to the Senate; if they made it to the Senate, they would never have the votes to send the names to the president.

We've seen how Thomas and Alito have protected and emboldened Donald Trump's desire for an imperial presidency, how they have undone the voting rights won by minorities in the 1960s, by backing Trump's anti-climate change hoax, this lunacy has to stop. And it won't, until those two justices have been replaced, just like Trump himself, by moderates, who still believe America, and its' democratic dream, can last another two hundred and fifty years.
