Tax questions needing answers in Illinois
Did not Prtizker raid the highway fund to bail out the CTA? Now the suburbs, who have all the toll roads, will bail out the fund and in reality the CTA.
Why does Illinois have tolls when none of our border states with the exception of Indiana have them? How do they fund their roads?
While we are at it, why does Illinois have the highest property taxes in the nation at 1.88% of value while Indiana is at .76% and all our other neighbors are lower?
Why does Illinois have as high as 11% in sales taxes while Missouri is 4.225% and all our neighbors are considerably lower?
Why do our gas taxes include an additional sales tax at 66 cents a gallon while Iowa is 30 cents, Kentucky 25 cents, Missouri 30 cents and Wisconsin 33 cents?
Why with the exception of Wisconsin’s top rate that applies only to the evil rich are our income taxes higher than all our neighbors?
What do we get for this taxation? Are our roads better, kids better educated, is crime lower and are services better?
Yet the people of this state refuse to see it. I guess for many it is hard to admit you have been wrong all along.
Of course, Pritzker will never be confronted about this. He will talk about how the credit rating is supposedly better but ignore the ticking time bomb of unfunded pension liabilities and the massive taxation.
