Reports: Schaumburg football player seriously injured in loss to Antioch

An unidentified football player from Schaumburg suffered a severe injury Friday in his school’s opening game at Antioch.

According to published reports, the player was injured and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. His condition is unknown at this time.

When reached via text, Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling responded that out of respect for the family, he could not comment.

In the game, Antioch scored a touchdown with under a minute to play to hold off the Saxons 34-27. Schaumburg had rallied to tie the game in the fourth quarter on an Xavier Tudela touchdown run and two-point conversion pass from Dylan Ramirez to Mason Heydecker.

Conant 21, Bartlett 0: Conant rushed for 298 yards and ran nearly 20 more plays than Bartlett, which finished with six passing yards and 110 yards of total offense.

“Our entire team played fast, physical and unselfish football,” Conant coach Anthony Donatucci said. “They showed leadership throughout the game.”

Tyler Marchese scored on a five-yard run and Anthony Burns scored from 20 yards out to give the Cougars a 14-0 halftime lead. Ty Mickelson scored on a four-yard run in the third quarter to put the game away.

Mundelein 20, Grant 16: Mundelein scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull off the victory. Tyler Johnson was 8-of-17 passing for 101 yards. He threw a pair of touchdown passes to Cam Earing, who had 78 yards receiving and 50 rushing yards.

Grayslake Central 41, Tinley Park 31: The Rams rushed Brett Pitt to his first victory as a head coach. Grayslake Central piled up 303 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. Ken-Ye Pendleton ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Ray Ray Wright had 124 yards and three touchdowns rushing.

Round Lake 18, Larkin 14: The Wildcats opened their season with a victory thanks to a 98-yard touchdown catch and run from Jaquan Jamerson on a pass from Evan West. Jamerson had two receptions for 118 yards. West was 12-of-29 passing for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Gerardo Perez had a touchdown catch. Jeremiah Kelly rushed for 95 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Dylan Wright led the defense with 10 tackles, including 2.5 sacks.

Wauconda 32, Hinsdale South 21: The Bulldogs picked up their 10th regular-season win a row as they ground down the Hornets. Brody Rudolph rushed for three touchdowns, while Brian Hart rushed for 75 yards and another touchdown. Luke Sickmeir caught three passes for 84 yards and touchdown. Defensively, Rudolph had 10 tackles, Sickmeir had a pair of interceptions and six tackles, Finn Loomis added seven tackles.

Grayslake North 42, Vernon Hills 21: Jaylen Newkirk ran for two touchdowns and threw for two others for the Knights, who built a 35-7 lead. Newkirk, who had touchdown runs of 58 and one yards, finished with 98 yards rushing. He also was 7-of-17 passing for 87 yards with touchdown passes of 32 yards to Will Foley and 16 yards to Finn McMahon. Jay Kelly added 21-yard scoring run and Beckett Dovel tallied from 25 yards. Vernon Hills got three touchdown passes from Colin McMurray, who was 11-of-24 passing for 182 yards. Omari Miller caught a 12-yard touchdown pass and Brian Ayvazian had touchdown receptions of 61 and 20 yards.

Elk Grove 20, Maine West 6: Isaiah Albazi got Elk Grove off to huge start with an interception return for a touchdown, and quarterback Luke Maher took it from there. The senior QB was 9-of-15 passing for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Maher threw touchdown passes of 53 yards to Erik Sandoval and 18 yards to Thanos Tromboukis. Sandoval added 114 rushing yards on 17 carries. Davion Tate caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Wyatt Roux for Maine West’s touchdown.

Fenton 41, Maine East 7: The Blue Demons stumbled in their opener in Bensenville. Peter Khamo score the lone touchdown for Maine East.

St. Patrick 54, Rolling Meadows 27: St. Patrick pulled away from a 14-14 tie in the second quarter to post the victory. Luke Harvey ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns, while Kyle Greazel also had a touchdown run.

Leyden 28, Highland Park 23: Quarterback Santino Falco rushed for three touchdowns and 55 yards, and Nehemiah Almodvar gained 49 yards and ran for a touchdown. It was Leyden’s first win over Highland Park after two consecutive opening-game losses to the Giants.

St. Ignatius 51, St. Viator 0: The Lions had a rough time in their opener and fell in Arlington Heights. Bryson Jackson caught five passes for 37 yards and had eight tackles for St. Viator.

Oak Lawn 60, Wheeling 0: For the second year in a row, Wheeling had a tough time with Oak Lawn in the Wildcats’ season opener.

Glenbrook North 15, Lakes 6: The Eagles came up short in Northbrook.
