The sounds of classic and modern ragtime filled the air Saturday at the Ragtime Festival at the Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin.
The music of Sue Keller, one of the world’s top ragtime players, was overflowing from the car barn, which amplified her voice.
Thirty-seven-year-old Devin Johnson of Aurora, has been volunteering for much of his life, after his grandfather introduced him to trains when he was 2.
Johnson was acting as a volunteer engineer Saturday running vintage trolley car 316 along the line.
The early-20th century electric interurban, a type of fast, electric-powered passenger railway, and other trolley cars travel a 2-mile stretch of historic track dating back to 1896.
Tickets are good for unlimited rides on the day of the ticket, with music being played all day long. Seats on the train are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Ragtime Festival continues 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the museum, at 365 S. La Fox St., in South Elgin.
