GPS Parent Series to host author on breaking the cycle of anxiety
On Wednesday, Aug. 26, the GPS Parent Series will host renowned clinical child psychologist Dr. Meredith Elkins in a presentation titled “Parenting Anxiety: Breaking the Cycle of Worry and Raising Resilient Kids” at noon and 7 p.m. via Zoom.

In this era of unprecedented modern pressures, managing family mental health can feel increasingly overwhelming. To assist, Elkins brings actionable, evidence-based strategies to GPS, helping parents break cycles of anxiety, challenge unrealistic cultural ideals, and foster genuine resilience.
By attempting to shield children from every discomfort, parents can unintentionally block their children from building courage, confidence, and independence. Caregivers will learn how to effectively support a child’s mental health without overprotecting them or exacerbating anxiety. Elkins empowers parents to rethink “negative” emotions — such as fear, sadness, and guilt — while urging families to embrace a “love and limits” approach.
Elkins is a clinical child psychologist and Harvard Medical School faculty member. She is the author of “Parenting Anxiety” and will be in conversation with Lynn Lyons. Lyons is an experienced licensed psychotherapist, author of “Anxiety Audit” and an international speaker who is widely known for her focus on preventing and breaking generational cycles of worry in families.
