Driver charged in crash that killed bicyclist in Hampshire
An Aurora man has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash that killed a bicyclist last month in Hampshire.
Marcos Moreno, 61, of the 700 block of Front Street, is charged with failure to report a crash resulting in death, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and obstructing justice, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office. All the charges are felonies.
Authorities said Hampshire police were called to a reported crash at about 12:40 a.m. July 6 along Route 20, between Big Timber and Gast roads. They arrived to find Ebony Calvillo, 27, of Hampshire, who was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Prosecutors allege Moreno was driving a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck that struck Calvillo. He then left the scene, didn’t report the crash and attempted to conceal the damaged truck by first storing it in a parking lot, then having it towed to his house, prosecutors say.
Moreno is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, when prosecutors will ask a judge to order him held in the county jail while the case is pending.
