One dead in early morning Lake Forest house fire
Authorities are investigating the cause of a deadly fire early Sunday morning at a home in Lake Forest.
Firefighters from the Lake Forest Fire Department called to the 1200 block of Griffith Road shortly after midnight arrived to find a two-story residence with flames visible from a rear first-floor window, officials said.
Crews advanced a hose line into the rear of the residence and quickly extinguished the fire, according to the fire department.
Two occupants were inside the home when the fire started. One escaped by jumping from a second-story window and was located outside by firefighters, officials said. That person was taken to Lake Forest Hospital for treatment.
A second occupant was found dead inside the home as firefighters conducted search and suppression operations, according to the fire department. The person’s identity has not been released.
The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal is assisting the Lake Forest Fire Department with the investigation, officials said.
Lake Forest firefighters were assisted at the scene by fire departments and agencies from Lake Bluff, North Chicago, Libertyville, Highland Park, Deerfield, Countryside, Lincolnshire, Waukegan, Round Lake, Buffalo Grove, Mundelein and Lake Zurich.
