Celebrate different cultures at Wheeling International Fest
Wheeling’s annual International Festival offers a chance to explore multiple world cultures right here in the suburbs.
The festival, which has been taking place since 2017, will be held from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Heritage Park Performance Pavilion, 201 Community Blvd., Wheeling. Admission is free.
It features live performances, activities and ethnic foods. Visitors can learn about local organizations that support diverse populations.

Daniela Chavez Lira, director of public relations for the Wheeling Park District, shared some details about what visitors can expect.
Q. What is new or different at this year's festival?
A. The first 200 young explorers to arrive can embark on their own global adventure with a Travel Around the World Passport activity. Children will visit participating cultural and community organization booths, learn about countries and traditions from around the world, and collect passport stamps along the way. It is a fun and interactive way to inspire curiosity while celebrating the many cultures that represent Wheeling’s diversity.
Q. What makes this festival stand out in comparison to other festivals?
A. It celebrates the many cultures represented within our own community. The festival brings together a variety of cultural performances, cuisine, art and experiences in one place, creating an opportunity for residents and visitors to learn from and connect with one another.
The festival is free and accessible to everyone, making it an inclusive event where families of all backgrounds can come together to celebrate diversity. It also reflects Wheeling Park District's commitment to building community through meaningful experiences.
Beyond a day of entertainment, the festival showcases the people, traditions and collaborations that make our community diverse and inclusive while fostering a greater appreciation for the cultures that call Wheeling home.
Q. What cultures will be featured at this year's festival?
A. This year's performance lineup reflects cultures from around the world, with representation spanning Afro-Caribbean, Polynesian, Asian, Eastern European, South American and many other backgrounds. The diverse mix of performers showcases a wide range of cultural heritage, ensuring attendees experience the unique music, dance and traditions that make our community one of the best places to live.
Q. Do you have any tips for how festgoers can have their best experience at the event?
A. We encourage attendees to follow our social media channels for the latest event updates, including parking information, shuttle service details and wayfinding throughout the festival. A comprehensive event map will be available at wheelinginternationalfestival.com, and we'll also share informational videos highlighting new shuttle bus pickup locations and a dedicated ADA-accessible parking area. These enhancements are designed to make navigating the festival easier and more convenient for all guests.
