Veterans United Foundation awards $10k grant to SALUTE Inc. for veteran transition programs
Local nonprofit SALUTE Inc recently received a $10,000 grant from the Veterans United Foundation (VUF), the charitable arm of Veterans United Home Loans.
The grant will be used to directly support SALUTE’s veteran assistance programs, which serve post-9/11 veterans as they transition home.
“We are so grateful to our friends at the Veterans United Foundation for their generosity and support of our mission,” said Mary Beth Beiersdorf, SALUTE Inc. executive director. “We can’t adequately care for our veteran community without donors, business partners, and grants like this one from VUF.”
The Veterans United Foundation enhances the lives of veterans and military families across the nation and is funded by employees from Veterans United Home Loans, Veterans United Realty, and Veterans United Insurance.
Roughly 90% of Veterans United Home Loans employees choose to donate a portion of their salary to support the foundation. SALUTE was chosen as the recipient of this grant by an employee-elected committee this July.
“SALUTE, Inc. has spent two decades doing remarkable work meeting injured and post-9/11 Veterans one family at a time and providing the immediate, practical help that keeps them in their homes and moving forward,” said Piper Brintnall, Veterans United Foundation coordinator. “Veterans United Foundation is proud to support a mission carried out with such care and accountability, and we’re honored to help SALUTE reach even more veterans as they transition home.”
SALUTE is a local nonprofit dedicated to meeting the financial, physical, and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans, and their families. They provide one-time financial assistance for rent/mortgage payments, auto expenses, utilities, and other everyday expenses as veterans transition back to civilian life.
They also help cover household costs while veterans receive assistance at VA hospitals or mental health, rehabilitation, and substance abuse programs. The organization has been a staple of the northwest suburbs throughout the last two decades.
“By working with other organizations like the Veterans United Foundation, we can really scale our impact,” Beiersdorf said. “There are so many veterans in need of our help, and the numbers seem to grow each year. These partnerships allow us to touch the lives of even more veterans and help them get back on their feet fast.”
