Patriotic-themed drone show to light up Wilmette’s fifth annual Block Party

On Saturday, Aug. 29, Wilmette Park District will present the village’s first synchronized drone show as a special feature of this year’s Wilmette Block Party.

Funds originally allocated for the canceled Fourth of July fireworks will support the drone light show, offering the community a unique experience while continuing the tradition of lighting up the night sky in 2026.

The patriotic-themed show will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

The fifth annual Wilmette Block Party, held in the heart of downtown Wilmette, offers a central, accessible gathering place where residents can easily join in the celebration.

Rather than rescheduling the July 3 fireworks, the park district chose to enhance one of Wilmette’s signature events and make this year’s Block Party even more memorable.

Organized by the Wilmette Park District in partnership with the village of Wilmette and the Wilmette/ Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce, the event continues to grow each year.

The Block Party draws thousands of people downtown to enjoy local food, live music and family-friendly activities. Last year’s party broke records with 22 sponsors, 40 Kids Zone booths, and nearly $47,000 raised.

The Block Party will be noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in downtown Wilmette. Admission is free.

The main stage entertainment will feature Hoopla at 3 p.m., Second Hand News at 5:30 p.m., and Final Say at 8 p.m.

The Jesse White Tumblers will perform at 2:30 p.m. And Miss Make-Believe will entertain the kids at 4 p.m. on the Kids Zone stage.

The Foam Zone will be open from noon to 2 p.m. and the Jump Zone with Inflatables, trackless train, games and more wil be offered from 2 to 7 p.m.
