Naperville woman gets 38 years in prison for murdering fiance

A Naperville woman was sentenced Tuesday to 38 years in prison for killing her fiance in a dispute about whether he was dating another woman.

Rosa Lagrone, 40, was found guilty Feb. 6 of the first-degree murder of Darnell Manns.

Prosecutors told the jury that around 2:16 p.m. Nov. 6, 2020, Lagrone and Manns were arguing at her home in the 25W0-100 block of Keswick Lane. Manns was packing up his belongings to leave.

Lagrone shot him in an arm; the bullet went through the arm and lodged in his spine. Manns died three days later.

After the shooting, prosecutors said, Lagrone used Mann’s Facebook page to chat live via video with the woman she believed was dating. The video showed him in the background, on the floor, in a pool of blood. The video also showed someone kicking him twice.

Lagrone has been held in the DuPage County jail since her arrest in 2020. She will have to serve 100% of the sentence before being eligible for parole.
