Body of missing Evanston man found near Libertyville

The body of a suburban man whose disappearance triggered a search near Libertyville has been found.

The Evanston man, whose name hasn’t been released by authorities, was recovered Friday night on the shoreline of the Des Plaines River near Oak Spring Road, Lake County Forest Preserve District authorities said.

The man had been reported missing by his family Thursday night.

Relatives said he had driven to near Lake Minear in Libertyville, forest preserve Deputy Police Chief Jamie Medina said through a spokesperson. The lake is just west of the Des Plaines River.

The man’s car later was found in a parking lot in that area, Medina said.

Police and firefighters searched for the man in the river and along the shoreline between Route 137 and Route 176. They also used special equipment to search beneath the surface of nearby Lake Minear.

The investigation has been turned over to the Lake County coroner’s office.
