Hoffman Estates police warn of scam calls and texts claiming to be from officers

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is seeing an increase in reports of phone and text scams where people are contacted by scammers impersonating real officers or detectives.

These scammers may even spoof the police department’s phone number so the call appears legitimate.

The caller may claim the person is involved in an investigation, has an outstanding arrest warrant or needs to “turn yourself in.” They may then ask for money and/or personal information.

Hang up and call the Hoffman Estates Police Department to verify the call.

Caller ID is not proof of who is calling, police advise.

When in doubt, independently verify. Call the local police department using a trusted phone number.
