Historic first: Two Geneva teams capture District 13 titles in inaugural Little League year
Following decades of local tradition, Geneva’s Majors and Junior League teams earned state tournament berths through hard work and team-first play.
For more than three decades, the Geneva Baseball Association has served as the cornerstone of youth baseball in the city of Geneva. In 2026, the board of directors took a visionary leap by chartering their programs with Little League for the very first time.
That bold step produced immediate magic: GBA secured two District 13 Championships in its inaugural Little League season.
The GBA Majors All-Star team earned their district title on July 20, 2026, with a shutout victory over South Elgin, while the GBA Junior League All-Stars defeated Elgin National on July 7, 2026.
Out of 15 distinct communities competing across District 13, Geneva stood tall across multiple divisions. Both teams traveled to their respective Illinois State Tournaments, and came up short unable to advance to the Central Regional with hopes of earning a trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvania and a potential broadcast appearance on ESPN at the Little League World Series.
“When our board made the vote to charter with Little League, our goal was simple: strengthen baseball in our community, support an inclusive approach to development, align with a program that shares our instill the life lessons Little League advocates, and offer a unique and unforgettable baseball experience,” said Scott Kannry, GBA commissioner. “To see both our Majors and Junior League teams bring home District 13 Championships in our very first year is beyond anything we had hoped for. It validates every bit of hard work our organization, volunteers, families and players put into making this transition possible.”
The transition brought together all neighborhood players onto one stage, rallying the entire town of Geneva around these championship rosters as shown by Mayor Kevin Burns wishing them luck on Instagram.
“Little League offers a truly unique opportunity for our players, even those who participate in various house and travel programs. It is a special chance for these athletes to compete right here in their own community, playing side-by-side with their neighborhood friends and classmates,” said Lou Marucheau, manager of the Geneva Major League All-Star team. “They not only develop critical baseball skills and true sportsmanship but also build the chemistry and a bond needed as they work toward ultimately playing together for their community at Geneva High School.”
