Nobody injured when jet leaves runway while landing at Chicago Executive Tuesday evening

There were no injuries reported Tuesday when an airplane left the taxiway after landing at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling.

The plane, a three-engine business jet, landed at the airport just before 5:30 p.m., according to a news release from the airport.

When it turned off the runway to enter a taxiway, its right landing gear left the paved surface and became lodged in the unpaved area.

The airport was closed to all air traffic for just more than an hour while emergency crews responded and assessed the situation. One of the airports two runways reopened around 6:40 pm.

Airport staff members are waiting for approval from the National Transportation Safety Board and FAA before removing the plane from the taxiway, and the incident remains under investigation.
