St. Charles church welcoming new rector

The Vestry of St. Charles Episcopal Church in St. Charles recently announced the calling of the Rev. Brian Petersen to be their new rector.

Rev. Petersen was born in Topeka, Kansas and grew up in the San Diego area. He is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University, Golden Gate Baptist Seminary, and Church Divinity School of the Pacific. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Ordained in 2022, he has served in various positions at California churches: priest-in-charge at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Carlsbad, curate and priest associate at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Poway, church planter and priest-in-charge of St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church in Oceanside, and most recently as interim priest-in-charge at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Encinitas.

The congregation is excited to welcome Father Brian and his family to the Chicago area. He begins his work at the church on Aug. 1. He will preach at his first service on Sunday, Aug. 9. Father Brian is looking forward to helping grow and strengthen the many ministries of St. Charles Episcopal Church, especially youth and children’s ministry and outreach ministries, and to developing and building new partnerships and connections with other organizations in the St. Charles area.
