Fox River Trail detour planned in Geneva

Part of the Fox River Trail in Geneva will be closed for two months starting Monday, July 27, due to the construction of a new sanitary sewer river crossing. It will be closed near the sewage treatment plant, south of the railroad and east of the Fox River.

An online map detailing the closure and detour route is available on the city’s website, geneva.il.us.

Users will be detoured onto a temporary gravel path that connects to a road through the plant.

The detour will be fenced on both sides of the road.

Users are urged to be careful, since the plant is an active facility and a construction zone. Flaggers may direct bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

The trail is expected to reopen in late September.

The city is replacing a 20-inch sanitary sewer river crossing with two 20-inch sanitary sewers to reduce the risk of sanitary sewage overflows.
