Charitable group collecting school supplies in Des Plaines

A Chicago-based nonprofit group is collecting backpacks and school supplies for needy children.

Kids Above All’s annual backpack drive will benefit 1,500 kids, the group said in a news release.

People can donate backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils and other items at the Kids Above All distribution center, 1801 E. Oakton St., Des Plaines. Appointments are necessary.

A list of needed items can be found at kidsaboveall.org. People also can shop from an Amazon registry and have supplies directly shipped to the distribution center. Gift card donations are welcome, too.
