Windy City Elite League launches Gear Drive to help local kids play hockey

The Windy City Elite League officially teamed up with the Hockey Gear For All Foundation on Wednesday, July 15, to host a summer youth hockey equipment drive.

The joint initiative focused on collecting quality new and gently used hockey gear to outfit aspiring young players across the area who face steep financial hardships when trying to enter the sport.

The collection drive took place during the league’s competitive summer games in Geneva, transforming a high-energy game day into a platform for community impact.

Fans, families, and area players rallied together, bringing outgrown and extra gear — including pads, helmets, skates, and sticks — directly to the donation tables at the rink.

By leveraging the high visibility of the Windy City Elite League’s summer season, which showcases top collegiate and elite regional talent, both organizations successfully mobilized the Fox Valley hockey community behind the cause.

All equipment collected during the event is being sorted, cleaned, and redistributed directly to local families in need by the Hockey Gear For All Foundation.

Rising costs have long served as one of the single steepest barriers to entry in youth sports, particularly in ice hockey. The July drive built a direct bridge between elite local players performing on the ice today and the next generation of players waiting for their opportunity to skate.
