Nation must repent and return to God

In 1941, Archbishop Fulton Sheen wrote “When we deny God as the foundation of our rights, we shall no longer have rights. The Declaration of Independence, I repeat, is a Declaration of Dependence.” A dependence on God. The founders used the Bible extensively in crafting the founding documents. They believed in God, Natural Law and Providence.

Did you know that whole legislatures, both state and federal, would attend a service before the legislative session began. Where’s the separation of church and state in that?

The early Jews were dependent on God and as long as they praised Him, the more blessings they would receive. And likewise, when they started to drift away from God, something bad would happen to them. A foreign power would conquer them and/or they would be put into slavery, not to mention other natural disasters.

That is what I am afraid of with our country now. We were so blessed in the beginning that we were able to create the most successful, powerful country in the world. Lately, we are losing sight of God. If we continue down this path of denying God’s very existence, I fear what God could do to us.

Some country could use nuclear missiles. The sun could run amok and make it too hot and dry to grow crops giving us famine. Or how about earthquakes or tsunamis. There’s also Yellowstone, a super volcano. It could erupt and blast soot over most of the country polluting land and water.

All I’m saying is that like the Jews of old, when they repented and returned to God, God rescued them and gave them blessings. We, as a country, need to do the same.
