Suspect in custody following fatal shooting Sunday night in Round Lake Beach
A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night in Round Lake Beach was apprehended Monday morning.
Police responding at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of gunfire in the 1200 block of Sunnyside Court found a man in the roadway with a gunshot wound, according a news release.
The man, later identified as 31-year-old Kevin Rodriguez-Ruiz of Round Lake Park, was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy Monday showed Rodriguez-Ruiz died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner’s office.
A suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting was identified, then located and arrested with the assistance of Illinois State Police.
“We worked through the night into the early morning to identify and ultimately locate our suspect,” said Round Lake Beach Police Chief Ryan Rodriguez.
Juan U. Lopez-Aguayo, 26, of Round Lake Beach, was charged Monday in Rodriguez-Ruiz’s death. He is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. He is slated for a first-appearance hearing Tuesday morning at the Lake County courthouse
Lopez-Aguayo was picked up by state police nearly six hours south, he added. Round Lake Beach detectives headed there early Monday morning and retrieved him.
Police said Rodriguez-Ruiz and Lopez-Aguayo knew each other and the shooting was an isolated situation.
