Moped’s driver, passenger critically injured when hit by car in Lake County

Two people aboard a moped suffered critical, life-threatening injures Sunday when the vehicle was struck by a car in northern Lake County, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. along Delany Road near August Zupec Drive in Wadsworth, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

A preliminary investigation indicated the Honda 150 moped was traveling north on Delany when it slowed down to make a left turn onto August Zupec Drive, officials said.

A Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 24-year-old woman behind the moped then swerved into the southbound lane of Delany Road and struck the moped as it turned left, authorities said.

The moped’s driver, a 35-year-old man, and passenger, a 32-year-old woman, were found unconscious in the roadway by sheriff’s deputies called to the scene. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, sheriff’s police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet and her passenger, a 49-year-old woman, were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team, officials said.
