Garbage trucks catch fire in Elk Grove Village storage lot
Arson is not suspected in a fire Saturday that left several refuse collection and paper shredding vehicles ablaze Saturday at a storage lot in Elk Grove Village.
Elk Grove Village firefighters and police officers responded to the blaze about 6:48 p.m. at the Groot Industries facility on the 2400 Landmeier Road, fire officials said.
Firefighters worked to contain and then extinguish the rapidly spreading fire, with the help of fire companies from Bensenville and Wood Dale. The fire was extinguished in about 90 minutes and no injuries were reported, officials said.
Elk Grove and Groot personnel are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire, but early indications point to an accidental fire, authorities said.
The dollar loss and potential challenges to Groot’s services are being determined, according to the Elk Grove Fire Department.
