Elgin man dies from injuries suffered in July 4 fireworks accident

An online fundraiser has been created to help cover the funeral and medical expenses of an Elgin man who died from injuries suffered in a July 4 fireworks accident in Wisconsin.

Tommy Wood, 21, was pronounced dead at July 11 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident took place at an outdoor area in Plymouth, a small town about 15 miles west of Sheboygan.

According to the GoFundMe fundraising page, Wood was a beloved son to his mother and late father, beloved brother to two siblings and a best friend to many.

“Tommy touched countless lives with his kindness and warmth, always bringing joy to those around him,” fundraiser organizers wrote. “His presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and his loss has left a deep ache in the hearts of his family and all who cared for him.

“Tragically, Tommy succumbed to his injuries from a 4th of July fireworks accident, and his passing has been incredibly difficult for everyone who loved him.”

Organizers wrote that the fundraiser will help cover “overwhelming” medical and funeral costs and ease the financial burden on his loved ones.

“Every contribution will go directly toward these expenses, helping honor Tommy’s memory and support his family during this heartbreaking time,” they wrote.

As of Sunday afternoon, the fundraiser at gofundme.com/f/support-tommy-woods-family-after-tragic-loss had raised more than $56,000 toward a goal of $70,000.
