Elgin man gets 16 years for drug-induced homicide

An Elgin man was sentenced Thursday to 16 years in prison for a fentanyl-related, drug-induced homicide.

Ladell D. Walker Sr., 48, was found guilty after text messages and phone calls presented at trial established he delivered narcotics containing fentanyl on September 10, 2023.

The evidence further proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the fentanyl Walker delivered caused the victim's fatal overdose.

In a press release, McHenry County State's Attorney Randi Freese discussed the mortal dangers of distributing fentanyl in the community.

“Be warned that if you choose to peddle your poison in our county, that no matter where you live, we will work relentlessly with our law enforcement partners to identify you, find you, and hold you responsible,” Freese said.
