Children and TV standards

Not so long ago, primetime network TV was not allowed to have programs that were not appropriate for children. Why has that changed? Did someone with money change it? Did our morality change? I am disappointed that parents can no longer count on network TV to keep undesirable programming off until after 10 p.m. Why are we constantly exposing young children to things they cannot understand and trying to normalize it? Let children be children. They grow up fast enough without constantly being exposed to inappropriate (for their ages) “garbage.” Why are we working so hard to demoralize our children? When did we decide we no longer need to protect the innocence of childhood?
