Person of interest in Wheeling death released without charges
A man detained following the weekend death of a Wheeling resident has been released after more than two days in custody, authorities said Wednesday.
Wheeling police have said 55-year-old Christopher M. Behnke’s death Saturday resulted from domestic violence, but no charges have been filed.
Wheeling police were called to Behnke’s townhouse on the 1100 block of Wildberry Court about 11:50 p.m. Saturday because someone there wasn’t breathing. Behnke subsequently was taken to Endeavor Health Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy was conducted Sunday and results are pending, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Police have called the death an isolated event.
The person of interest was released overnight Tuesday, Deputy Police Chief Troy Musolf said.
No other information about the case was available.
