Motorcyclist killed in Monday night Mettawa crash
A 43-year-old motorcyclist from Mundelein was killed when he collided with a vehicle Monday night in Mettawa.
The motorcyclist was identified as Michael Swidrak, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. He died from blunt force injuries suffered in the crash, based on preliminary autopsy results.
According to the Lake County sheriff’s office, the Swidrak was headed west on Route 60 and proceeding through a green light at Saint Marys Road just before 9 p.m. when the driver of a 2024 Chevrolet Trax traveling east on Route 60 turned left in front of the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist collided with the passenger side of the Chevrolet and was thrown from his vehicle, then struck a southbound Hyundai sedan.
Swidrak was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the 55-year-old Waukegan woman driving the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries, but is cooperating with the investigation.
No one inside the Hyundai was injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
