Bicyclist hit, killed in Hampshire

A cyclist was killed early Monday morning in Hampshire after being struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Hampshire police said a 27-year-old woman was riding a bicycle when she was hit by an unknown vehicle at approximately 12:40 a.m. along Route 20, between Big Timber and Gast roads. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kane County coroner’s office identified the woman as Ebony Calvillo of Hampshire. The preliminary cause of death is listed as multiple injuries “consistent with a bicyclist being struck by an automobile.”

The driver involved has not been identified.

According to a news release, the initial caller reported to authorities that another passing motorist had stopped to render aid before continuing from the scene.

Officials are asking anyone who was traveling in the area between 12:30 and 12:50 a.m. Monday to review any available dash camera footage and to contact Hampshire police if they observed anything that may assist investigators.

Detectives are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the bicyclist before the crash or has any information about either vehicle involved to come forward.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Hampshire police are being assisted by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force.
