Three men charged after Lake County sheriff’s deputies stop burglary in progress
Three men face charges in connection with the attempted burglary of heavy equipment Sunday night from property in unincorporated Libertyville.
According to a news release, Lake County Sheriff’s 911 Center got a call about 11:20 p.m. from a person who had rented a flatbed trailer to someone who failed to return it. The owner had a GPS device and told telecommunicators the flatbed was at a business in the 14200 block of West Rockland Road.
Responding deputies saw Corey Dismukes, 56, of Chicago and Emmanuel Harper, 45 of Milwaukee near the trailer loading two skid steers from the property onto the trailer and determined they were stealing them, according to the release.
Video surveillance from the business showed that a third person ran as deputies arrived, police said. Sheriff’s police dog Simba tracked a man identified as James Yancey, 35, of Chicago Heights about 1.5 miles away hiding in a forest preserve, authorities said.
The three were each charged with burglary and felony theft and appeared in court Monday morning.
“From our 911 telecommunicators, to our responding deputies, and our canine team, our staff worked together to stop a burglary in progress,” Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg said in a statement.
“I am proud of our team, grateful the property owner called us immediately, and pleased we were able to recover all of the stolen property,” he added.
