‘Edgy’ Tim: Wilson settling in after transfer to St. Francis

St. Francis junior quarterback Jadon Wilson took the reins of the Spartans’ offense at last week’s Naperville North 7-on-7 to great success.

Wilson (6-foot-3, 190 pounds), who transferred from East St. Louis earlier this summer, breaks down his move and his new challenge.

“This week we are on a break from team camp so I've been just getting to visit with family,” Wilson said. “The move went well and I’m all cleared and taking part in all the team events. Everything is going well and I’m excited to be a part of the team.”

Wilson also took part in a handful of recent college one-day camps.

“I camped this summer at Purdue, Illinois, Western Kentucky, NIU and also Illinois State,” he said. “At Illinois I was able to have a private workout in front of the Illinois coaches and they gave me a ton of personal attention. The overall feedback from the different coaches was positive. They all want to see me in real games on film and overall seem pretty excited about me. Those coaches also want me to stay in touch with them this season.”

Wilson also passed the all-important eyeball tests this summer.

“I was able to add quite a bit of good weight this winter in the weight room. It’s been a combination of the weight room along with diet and just eating better and training and lifting much harder.”

Saints’ Barrett adds Cincinnati offer

St. Charles East junior offensive tackle Liam Barrett (6-7, 255 pounds) added his latest offer earlier this week from the Cincinnati Bearcats. Barrett, who made a handful of college camps this summer. checks in.

“Cincinnati offered me a few days ago and the offer sort of came out of nowhere, to be honest,” Barrett said. “Cincinnati is a very good school and program. The offensive line coach (Nic Cardwell) seems like a great guy and they always seem to have a very good offensive line.”

Does he have any college day visits planned?

“I’m locked in to make a game-day visit to Indiana in Week 2 when they play Western Kentucky,” he said. “I’m also planning to make game-day visits to Iowa State for sure along with Kansas State, Cincinnati, Northwestern and also Michigan State. Florida State also sent me a game-day invite, and I would love to visit them, but that’s a long trip to make in season so we’ll see.”

Lake Park’s Booker talks KSU offer

Lake Park junior offensive tackle Charles Booker (6-foot-8, 295 pounds), rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals, earned his first Power Four offer from Kansas State this summer.

Booker, who took part in the Naperville North 7-on-7 and Lineman Challenge, fills us in on his latest recruiting news.

“I have an offer from Kansas State and they saw me this past spring in school,” Booker said. “The Kansas State coaches went back and evaluated my tape, then came back into school to offer me a scholarship.”

Booker will be seeing his first varsity action this season after playing on the lower levels for his first two seasons.

“I’ve only been playing football since my freshman year,” he said. “I played on the freshman team that year, then I played sophomore level last season. My coaches wanted me to work my way up and learn and develop my game before playing varsity. I’m so ready now to move up and play varsity ball. This season will be important to me and I’m excited to get going. I’ve been working on improving my second level blocks and just having better leverage and bend. I feel pretty good about my run blocking along with improving me feet and my pass pro.”
