DuPage County launches Operation Dropbox to collect donations for local veterans

DuPage County Health Department’s Operation Dropbox has now opened donation sites across the county, ready to collect items for local veterans and their families.

“Operation Dropbox is a simple but meaningful way for people to help veterans in our community,” said Adam Forker, executive director, DuPage County Health Department. “Every donation makes a difference, and we are grateful for everyone who chooses to give.”

Donations will be collected July 1 — July 30 and can be made at the following participating locations:

• Addison: DuPage County Health Department’s North Public Health Center, 1111 W. Lake St.

• Bartlett: Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road

• Bensenville: Bensenville Village Hall, 12 S. Center St.

• Carol Stream: Body Works Medical Center, 270 W. Army Trail Road; and Carol Stream Public Library, 616 Hiawatha Drive

• Darien: Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road

• Glen Ellyn: Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St.

• Itasca: Itasca Village Hall, 540 W. Irving Park Road

• Lombard: JC Penny, 175 Yorktown Mall Drive; and DuPage County Health Department’s East Public Health Center, 1111 E Jackson St.

• Streamwood: Poplar Creek Public Library District, 1405 S. Park Ave.

• Westmont: DuPage County Health Department’s Southeast Public Health Center, 422 N. Cass Ave.

• Wheaton: Attorney Resource Center, 505 N. County Farm Road; DuPage County Bar Association, 126 S. County Farm Road; DuPage County Health Department’s Central Public Health Center, 111 N. County Farm Road; Linda A. Kurzawa Community Center, 117 N. County Farm Road; and First Nations Bank, 1151 Butterfield Road

• Willowbrook: Willowbrook Village Hall, 835 Midway Drive

• Winfield: Winfield Public Library, 0S291 Winfield Road

Accepted donations include new hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and basic household goods.

“We appreciate all the support from the DuPage County Health Department,” said MaryAnn Ogilvie from the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans. “The items collected through Operation Dropbox help veterans meet their everyday needs.”

After the donation drive ends, the DuPage County Health Department will take part in a state-required emergency preparedness exercise. Staff and Medical Reserve Corps volunteers will use the donated items to practice unloading and distributing supplies, just as they would during a real emergency. This hands-on training helps the health department respond quickly and safely when the community needs help.
