Kane County creates video of residents reading Declaration of Independence

Kane County has produced a video featuring community members reading the Declaration of Independence.

Twenty-five people participated in the project.

Kane County Board Chairman Corinne Pierog said in a news release that the Declaration of Independence is more than a historic document.

“It is the foundation of our nation and the enduring expression of the principles upon which our democracy was built,” Pierog said. “This community reading brings together residents from across Kane County to reflect on those ideals and commemorate this milestone in our nation's history.”

The commemorative video will debut during a reception at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at American Legion Post 75 in Geneva, 22 S. 2nd St.

July 8 is the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Kane County's presentation will coincide with a nationwide reading of the document.

The video will be available on the county website, as well as the county’s YouTube channel and social media sites.

Batavia Access TV produced the video.
